Ontario Premier Doug Ford threatened “serious consequences” for Freedom Convoy protesters in Ottawa while simultaneously announcing the rollback of some COVID restrictions. On Monday, he announced bars, restaurants and other venues will no longer require proof of vaccination in Ontario starting March 1.
Capacity limits, except those on theaters and large events, are being lifted on Thursday. The remaining limits will be lifted entirely when the vaccine passports are eliminated, although masks are still required.
“Effective March 1, we intend to eliminate capacity limits in all indoor public settings,” said Ford. “At the same time, and at the recommendation of Dr. Moore, we will lift proof of vaccination requirements for all settings.”
Despite his announcement, the Canadian Premier slammed the Freedom Convoy while claiming they were not the reason for the sudden shift in pandemic messaging. He’s threatening fines, jail time and license removal for truckers in the convoy.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau plans to invoke the never before used Emergencies Act to remove protesters as more gather in the capital of Ottawa.
