President Donald Trump ridiculed potential presidential opponent Beto O’Rourke on Monday for having fewer supporters lining up to see him in El Paso.
The president is hosting a rally Monday night with supporters in the border city of El Paso to promote the fight to provide more physical barriers on the Southern border.
“We have a line that’s very long already,” he boasted to reporters during a White House meeting with Sheriffs to discuss border security.
O’Rourke is headlining a separate rally on Monday night to protest Trump’s proposal to build a wall, although he has not yet decided whether he will run for president.
“I understand our competitor has a line, too, but it’s a tiny little line,” Trump said. “They’ll make it sound like they had more people than we do. That won’t happen.”
He claimed that he had 75,000 people signed up to go to the rally, but the arena only held 9,000 people. He said there would be large screens for people who could not fit in the stadium.
“I like the old days, when I was allowed to make outdoor speeches, it was a lot easier because you could have very big crowds,” Trump said.
