His trip came amid a renewed focus on the coronavirus pandemic, which came about after President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump announced they tested positive for the virus on Friday.
Pompeo and his wife confirmed they both tested negative for COVID-19 following this news. However, he noted his team will be reevaluating his upcoming travel schedule to Florida and Asia in the coming days.
“I talked to my doctor back in Washington, the State Department medical team,” explained the secretary. “They said it’d be perfectly fine to make both of those trips, but we’re going to continue to look at it.”
Pompeo added he will continue to pray for a “speedy recovery” for both the President and First Lady.
Susan and I are keeping President @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS in our thoughts and prayers. May you both have a quick recovery. Our nation is standing strong with you!
